Northerns Hockey

Updated response to published SAHA Operational Guidelines under adjusted level 3

Whilst we have learnt that SAHA have communicated that hockey activities may commence under Level 3 Lockdown regulations, the NBHA have written to the national body requesting clarity and further understanding around these regulations as the custodians of hockey in our region in the light of the current situation where Gauteng is a hotspot.

As such we would appeal to all stakeholders in Northerns to refrain from starting hockey activities until such time that SAHA have responded.  Furthermore we are aware that a number of venues that applied for Venue Certificates in 2020 have been re-issued for 2021, however these certificates do not include the authorization for actual hockey activities to commence.

Your patience and understanding in this regard is appreciated, and further communication will follow.

Yours in hockey,

John Wright
President of the Northerns Blues Hockey Association

The Northerns Blues Hockey Association (or, as we call ourselves, just "Northerns") is responsible for the sport of field hockey primarily in the greater Tshwane area (Pretoria and surrounds), although we have clubs from as far afield as Rustenburg, Potchefstroom, Witbank and Kempton Park competing in our leagues.

In Northerns we play hockey from junior mini-hockey all the way up to masters level.  We have "social" teams and highly competitive teams.  Our provincial teams - from under 12 to senior - are regulars in the semi-finals or finals of interprovincial tournaments and we've had players and coaches on national teams for many, many years.  Our umpires and officials feature very prominently on national and international stages all the way up to the World Cup and Olympic Games.

We truly have something for everyone - please browse our site for more information on who we are and what we do.
